Horn OK Please Lyrics Translation [Honey Singh]

Movie: Dedh Ishqiya

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj
Lyrics: Gulzar
Singers: Yo Yo Honey Singh, Sukhwinder Singh

Horn ok please...

Horn ok pleej..
Main aa riya hoon ke ja riya hoon
reverse mein muskura riya hoon
Main koi chakkar chala riya hoon
ya gol pahiya ghuma riya hoon

Horn ok please..
[Horn ok please is basically a combination of Horn Please and OK, which are found written on trucks very commonly, mostly in a way that one can read it as 'Horn OK Please', though it's not one term. Here it works in a way like a truck driver's identity.]

Horn ok please..
Whether I am coming or going,
or smiling in reverse,
Whether I am doing something,
or just revolving the tyre..

[Chakkar chalaana is a multi meaning phrase. It literally means to turn or revolve a tyre, but is proverbially used for having an affair, and also doing something that is tricky.]

Jaane kahaan gaadi thuke
Panchar ho to pahiya ruke..
Kahan kahan bhatke bhala
Faatak mile to atke zara..

I don't know where would the car hit,
or there is a puncture, and the wheel stops.
Where all we wander,
and when there is a railway crossing gate, we get stuck..

Are na raadha na saanwra
Galiyon galiyon baawra..
Are dhoondh raha hai khoi hui cheej..

(It's) neither Radha, nor (looking for) Lord Krishna,
and still roams the streets like mad,
It's looking for some lost thing..

[seems he's talking about his heart here.]

Horn ok please..
Horn ok pleej, pleej, pleej, Horn ok pleej.
Main aa riya hu ke ja riya hoon
reverse mein muskura riya hoon

O mere partner kyoon judaa ho gaye
Kaaj hain kurte ke aur button kho gaye..
Kahin to mile koi kafila
Galiyon galiyon baawara
Dhoondh raha hai khoi hui cheej

O my partner, why have you got away from me,
it's as if there are buttonholes, but the buttons are lost from a shirt,
Somewhere I will find a convoy/caravan,
I roam streets like mad,
looking for some lost thing..

[Kaaj means a buttonhole, Kurta is a robe-like traditional shirt.]

Horn okay please..

Tere bin zindagi se khalu shikva to nahi
Ek haar hai yaar thanedaar ka fatva to nahi
Ata pata to bata..
Koi sura besura, na Rafi, na Lata..
Khaalu pleej bata.

Without you, O uncle, I have no complaints against life,
It's a necklace man, not some edict by a police inspector..
Give me some idea at least,
someone in tune, or out of tune, neither Rafi is here, nor Lata..
Uncle, please tell me.

tu gaya to kahaan..
Mera soona hai jahaan
kahin dikhta nahi tere jute ka nishan
Sar pitu haan, koi sajda to nahi
Tere bin zindagi se khaalu shikva to nahi

Where did you actually go?
My world is all empty without you.
I don't see the signs of your shoes (left on ground) anywhere,
There is no complaint against life, though, without you uncle.

Dhaar bin chakku nahin
Rassi bin lattu nahin
Tu hai to sab korma
Tere bin sattu nahi..

There is no existence of a knife without sharpness.
Nor can there be a top without a rope [the top that spins with a rope's help]
If you're there, everything is like kurma [a Mughlai dish in South Asia]
and without you, even Sattu (a very basic food item, considered tasteless and poor man's food)

Mod pe mil, phir maajra**
Galiyon galiyon baawra
Dhoondh raha hai khoi hui cheez

Meet me on the turn, then we'll talk about the mystery,
I roam streets like mad,
looking for some lost thing..

Horn okay please..

** - Not too clear.

Jagaave Saari Raina: Lyrics Translation [Dedh Ishqiya]

Movie: Dedh Ishqiya

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj
Lyrics: Gulzar
Singer: Rekha Bharadwaj

Jagaave saari raina..
Nigode do naina..
nigode naina..
Churaaye chaina..
Jagaavein saari raina..

They keep me awake all night,
the two wretched eyes..
wretched eyes..
They steal my peace..
They keep me awake all night..

Kaanon mein juhi ke jhumke lagayi ke..
Baahon mein motiyaan pehne..
Sajaai ke motiya, sajaayi ke..
Sajna ka ke liye.. Sajna ka ke liye..
Re sajna..
Jagaave saari raina..

Wearing earrings of jasmine flowers in my ears,
wearing pearls in my arms,
adorning pearls,
for what, O beloved,
O beloved,
do my eyes keep me awake all night..

gaa ke talaiyya mein tara gira re..
Humka buaalye hain wo aisa laga re..
Dekhio baahar, darwajja kaa baja re..
Phir bhi un ke aane ko dhadka sa laga re..

A star fell into the village pond,
It felt like he's calling me..
See Outside, did the door make a sound?
Still I felt like a beat of his coming..

Jhoote laage, jhoote laage
Hawaaon ke bahna..

All the blowing of winds feels fake and false..

Jagave sari raina..

Dil ka Mizaaj Ishqiya Lyrics Translation [Dedh Ishqiya]

Movie: Dedh Ishqiya

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj
Lyrics: Gulzar
Singer: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Translated by: Harshit Gupta

ruk ruk ke kehte hain
jhuk jhuk ke rehte hain
dil ka mizaaj ishqiya [meaning]

I say, pausing in between,
I remain bowed,
The temperament of the heart is romantic..

tanha hai logon mein
logon mein tanhaayi
dil ka mizaaj ishqiya

It's lonely amid people,
there is loneliness within people..
The temperament of the heart is romantic..

choten bhi khaaye
aur gungunaaye
Aisa hi tha ye
aisa hi hai ye
masti mein rehta hai
mastaana saudayi
dil ka mizaaj ishqiya

It's gets hurt,
and still hums,
it was like that,
and is like that still.
It remains joyful,
the joyful mad one,
The temperament of the heart is romantic..

sharmeela sharmeela
parde mein rehta hai
dardon ke chhonke bhi
chupke se sehta hai
nikalta nahi hai gali se kabhi
nikal jaaye to dil bhatak jaata hai
are bachcha hai aakhir behek jaata hai

It's shy,
remains in veil,
even the twists of pain,
it bears with silence..
It never goes out of the street,
If it does, it gets lost..
After all, it's a child, it gets tempted..

khwaabon mein rehta hai
bachpan se harjaai
dil ka mizaaj ishqiya

It remains in dreams,
since childhood, the unfaithful..
The temperament of the heart is romantic..

gusse mein bal khaana
gairon se jal jaana
mushkil mein aaye to vaadon se tal jaana
ulajhne ki is ko yoon aadat nahi
magar bewafa, sharafat nahi..
ye jazbaati ho ke chhalak jaata hai..
ishq mein hoti hai thodi si garmaai
dil ka mizaaj ishqiya

To get stubborn in anger,
to be envious of others,
To evade promises when in trouble,
It doesn't like to get entangled,
But it's infidel, doesn't have decency..
It gets emotional and spills,
There is a little heat in love,
The temperament of the heart is romantic..

ruk ruk ke.. ishqiya
jhuk jhuk ke.. ishqiya..

pausing.. romantic,
bowing, romantic..

Zuban/ Zabaan Jale Hai Lyrics Translation [Dedh Ishqiya]

Movie: Dedh Ishqiya

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj
Lyrics: Gulzar
Singer: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Na boloon main to kaleja phoonke
Jo bol doon to zabaan jale hai

If I don't say, it burns my heart,
if I (dare to) say, it burns my tongue..

[The implication is that it's heart-burning to keep my love to myself, and it so tough to say it that it seems it'll burn my tongue if I try.]

Sulag na jaave agar sune wo
Jo Baat Meri Zabaan Tale Hai

I hope she doesn't get fired up [that is angry]
when she hears what I have to say..

[Literal translation is, when she hears what is under my tongue. Like he has kept it hidden under the tongue, and may come out anytime when he moves his tongue.]

Lage to phir yoon ke rog laage
Na saans aave, na saans jaave..
Ye ishq hai namuraad aisa..
Ke jaan leve tabhi Taley hai

When you catch it (love, talking of it like some flu), it feels like some illness,
it's difficult to breath, either inhale or exhale,
this love is such a loser,
it leaves you only when it has taken your life.. [or ends with you only]

[Namuraad literally means a failure, a loser, someone who is unlucky, but is also used as a kind of soft swear word, and that seems the intention here.]

Hamaari haalat pe kitta rove
hai, aasman bhi tu dekh leejo
ke surkh ho jaavein us ki aankhein-
bhi jaise jaise ye din dhale hai

You see how much even the sky cries
looking at my situation..
so much, that his eyes get reddened,
as the day comes to an end..

[In an Gulzar-alone-can types of metaphors, he looks at the redness of evening sky and thinks of it as redness of eyes when you cry.]

Na boloon main to kaleja phoonke
Jo bol doon to zabaan jale hai

Dil ka Diya Kya Hoga Lyrics Translation [Dedh Ishqiya]

Movie: Dedh Ishqiya

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj
Lyrics: Gulzar
Singers: Master Salim, Jaspreet 'Jazim' Sharma (saregamapa contestant, debut song), Shahid Mallya (rabba main to mar gaya oye), Jamal Akbar

Dil ka diya, shab bhar jalaa..
Tere liye o piyaa..
Jaate hue keh ke gaya
Yaar alvida alvidaa..

The lamp of my heart, burned all night,
for you, O beloved..
When it died, it went, saying goodbye, forever..

Dil to diya hai, jaan bhi de de
Aur nazraana kya hoga..
Lau ko chhoo ke laut aaya jo..
Wo parvaana kya hoga..

You have given your heart (for the beloved), give your life too,
what greater gift can you give..
What's there in a moth that touched the flame,
and came back

[The implication is that moths are to die in the flame, and that is what you should do. For more, see Shama/Parvana Meaning.

Also, look at the 'Yamak' in diyaa. Dil ka diya has diya meaning lamp, and dil to diya hai means, you have given the heart, and dil to diya hai could still mean the heart is a lamp. Word play!
]

Kya hoga, kya hoga, kya hoga..
Kya kya ji, kya kya ji, kya hoga..

What'll it be, what'll it be..

Sar pe falak hai, falak pe sitare
Aji humne to dekhe hain aankhon mein saare
O palkein jhukaane se kya hoga..

There is sky above us, and stars on that sky,
I have seen them all in your eyes,
now how does it matter if you lower your eyes..

Kya hoga, kya hoga, kya hoga..
Kya kya ji, kya kya ji, kya hoga..

Kya kya bataayein ke kin kin zamaanon mein
Dekhna hai hum ne tumhe
O piya, ji piya..
Rumani mausam ki sab daastaanon mein
Dekha hai hum ne tumhe
O piya, ji piya..

How can I tell you in which all ages
I have seen you,
O beloved, very beloved..
In all the stories of romantic weathers,
I have seen you,
O beloved, very beloved..

O piya, ji piya..
More piya ji, more piya ji..

O beloved, very beloved..
My beloved, very beloved..

[Ji actually is a sign of respect, and here, in a little uncommon way, ji is used with a beloved, to show love and respect at the same time.]

Jaana tu baarish ki aawaaz mein..
Kabhi chhaaon ke andaaz mein..
Kabhi udti hui dhoop mein..
Kabhi khushboo ki parvaaz mein..

O beloved, you're there in the sound of rains,
and sometimes in the styles of shades (or shadows)
Sometimes in flying sunshine,
and sometimes in the flights of fragrances..

Udte guzarte jo dariya ne dekha..
Paani pe parchhayi sehla ke dekha..
katra ke ab hum se kya hoga..

As if flying, when passing, the river saw,
stroked the shadow on water and felt..
Now what's the point of avoiding me..

Zindagi us pe vaar ke aaye..
Saare ehsaan utaar ke aaye..
Humne taare utaare the lekin
Us ne to aasmaan loot liya..

I have sacrificed my life over her,
I have come, having returned all the favours,
I had picked the stars,
but she robbed the entire sky..

[1. The gender of the person in question is not mentioned, we can do that in Hindi/Urdu, however one can safely assume/guess it's a girl being talked about.
2. the implication of stars and sky is probably something like I had seen and loved her eyes (refer earlier mention to stars) while she took his heart and hence everything.
]

Loot liya bhai, loot liya bhai
Loot liya bhai, loot liya bhai, loot liya..

Robbed me, ah, robbed me, ah, robbed me..

Parda uthai ke, ghoongat girai ke
Chain hamara loot liya..

lifting the veil up, and falling the veil down,
she robbed me of my peace..

Loot liya bhai, loot liya bhai, loot liya..
Nazar uthayi aur..
Nazar uthayi aur, palkein gira ke loot liya..
Salaam-e-shauk ne kuchh is tarah se loot liya..

Robbed me, ah, robbed me,
She lifted her eyes..
She lifted her eyes, and then closed her eyelids (as feeling shy), and robbed me.
The salute of love robbed me in such a way...

Loot liya bhai, loot liya bhai, loot liya..
Na jaane khoon hua..
Na jaane khoon hua, kitni aarzuon ka..
Labon mein paan ki surkhi laga ke loot liya..

Robbed me, ah, robbed me,
I don't know how many desires were killed,
she looted me, marking the redness of betel-leaf in my lips..

[Now that could be her simply feeding him a betel-leaf-preparation, or, well, passing it through the lips.]

Wafa se loota kabhi kabhi aur kabhi jafaa se loot liya
Sitam sitam hai, sitam sitam hai..
Sitam sitam, har ada pe loot liya..

She robbed me sometimes by her love, and sometimes with her torment,
this is cruelty, complete cruelty,
it's a cruelty, she robbed me with her styles..

Loot liya bhai, loot liya bhai, loot liya..
Loot liya bhai, loot liya bhai, loot liya..

Hamari Atariya pe: Lyrics Translation [Dedh Ishqiya]

Hamri Atariya [meaning] pe aaja re Sanwariya. Vishal Bhardwaj composes, Gulzar writes the lyrics, Rekha Bharadwaj sings, and Madhuri Dixit dances to it. To top it, the song is based on an old thumri on raaga Sindhu Bhairavi. Now how could you not expect high from the song. But for me, despite the high expectations from it, the song still passes, and with quite flying colors.

I have tried my best to translate the song, but as may always be the case with Gulzar Saab's songs, there are so many nuances in the song that one might miss, so if there is anything that you think is missing, please let me know, and if I find something to add, I sure will. Thanks.

Saj ke sajaayein baithi
Saans mein bulaaye baithi..
Kahaan gum hua anjaanaa..
are are diye re jalaye re jalaye*
naa atariya pe aaya parwana..

I sit adorned, as if in a punishment
[because the beloved is not coming]
I sit, having called him to my breaths,
where has the unknown gone?
I have kindled many lamps,
but the moth hasn't come to the balcony..
[a moth is expected to be attracted to lamps, and hence she kindles lamp.]

Kaun sautan haaye, bharmaaye re..
Hamri atariya pe, aaja re sanwariya..
Dekha dekhi tanik hui jaaye..

Which other woman do you allure,
come to my balcony, O my beloved,
let there be some looking at each other..

Kiwadiya se lag ke piya kare jhaanka jhaanki..
Bahut kaudi phenke piya udaave jahaan ki..
Kasam deve jaan ki..
Aaja gilauri, khilay doon kimaami..
Laali pe laali tanik hui jaaye..

The beloved, sticking to the door, becomes a peeping tom,
He throws a money a lot, he thinks nothing of the world,
swears upon his life...
Come, O beloved, I'll get you a betel-leaf with fragrant kimaam,
Let there be some more red over your red lips..

[Gilauri is a betel-leaf with all the components of the 'paan' preparation, paan ka beeda in simple Hindi. Kimaam is a fragrant paste made with tobacco leaves, together with cardamom, saffron etc.]

padosan ke gharva jaiho, jaiho na sabariya
sautan se boli mori kaate jeheriya,
jeheri najariya..
aaja atariya pe pilay doon angoori,
jora jori tanik hui jaaye..

don't go to the house of the neighborhood woman, O beloved,
Ask the other woman to (try and) cure my poison,
(the effect of my) posionous sight..
Come, I'll make you drink the wine,
let there be some coercion..

saajne lagaaye baithi
chuTiya ghumaaye baithi
kahan gum hua an-jaa-na.

I sit here, with all the adornment,
I sit here, having turned my braids,
where is the unknown one lost?
